Two Years In: What AI Actually Changed About Building the Web
When we published our first AI field report in early 2023, the tools were novelties being auditioned. Starting 2025, they are infrastructure. What Genuinely Got Faster
- Writing code. Assistants draft boilerplate, translate between languages, and scaffold features in minutes. The typing part of development has genuinely compressed, and we pass that speed to clients.

What Did Not Change at All
The hard parts of web development were never typing speed. Knowing what to build, what to refuse to build, how systems should fit a business, what breaks under real users, and whether generated code is actually correct, secure, and accessible: that judgment is untouched, and AI has made it more valuable, because the industry is now flooded with plausible-looking code that nobody senior has read. AI-generated sites fail in characteristic ways: bloated markup, accessibility gaps, security assumptions nobody verified, and a sameness that no amount of generated imagery disguises. The tools amplify whoever holds them. Amplified inexperience ships faster than ever.
Our Working Rule: Correct Beats Big
We hold the same conviction about AI models that we hold about code: the biggest, newest thing is rarely the right thing, and correct is better than impressive. In practice that means assistants accelerate our seniors rather than replace review, generated output is treated as a draft with a probation period, and client-facing AI features get built on the right-sized model for the task instead of the most fashionable one. Efficiency is not just an ethic. It is usually the better engineering.
